Burglary
Aluminum Grand Larceny
, Vestal
In September and December of 2004, a series of Grand Larcenies have occurred in Vestal, New York.
The thefts have been occurring at the PB Industries, 448 Commerce Road, Vestal. In the first incident, which occurred sometime between the 17th and 20th of September; 250 - left aluminum gusset plates and 474 - Y pole gusset plates were stolen. These items are valued at $9,005.00
Sometime between September 30th and October 1st; 75 wooden pallets were stolen from this same location.
Additionally, sometime between 5:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2004 and 7:00 AM, Monday, December 6, 2004, a large number of items were stolen from the property. These items include:
27 - 36” by 48” sheets of aluminum
Large metal bin containing approximately 500 machined aluminum parts.
A 48” by 80” sheet of aluminum was bent in half by the suspect(s), but left behind.
The value of items stolen in this incident is $12,840.60.
The suspect(s) would have needed a van or truck to remove the stolen items. All of the stolen property was stored in and removed from an attached outbuilding at the company site.
Vestal Police Detectives believe the suspect(s) will attempt to sell the stolen property at a scrap metal facility.

Burglary
BPD Janette Avenue Taxicab Robbery

In the second week of December, 2004, an armed robbery occurred in Binghamton, New York.
Shortly after 7:00 PM on Friday, December 10, 2004, a Yellow Cab was dispatched to Janette Avenue, in the City’s First Ward, to pick up a fare. When the cab arrived at the address, a man approached and got into the cab. Once seated in the vehicle, the man suddenly displayed a handgun and ordered the cab driver to hand over his money. After receiving the money, the man then told the cab driver to get out of the vehicle. In compliance with the gunman’s order, the cab driver exited the vehicle. At this point, the man jumped into the driver’s seat and drove away, stealing the cab and leaving the driver standing in the street.
Binghamton Police were notified and immediately responded to the scene. The stolen cab was located shortly thereafter, found several blocks south of the scene. The suspect had fled the cab prior to Police locating it.
The cab driver was not injured in this incident. Taken from him was an undisclosed amount of cash.

Burglary
BPD CVS Baby Formula Larcenies

In late November of 2004, two larcenies occurred in Binghamton, New York. The first larceny reported occurred at the CVS Pharmacy, 249 Main Street. An inventory shortage of over $500.00 was discovered on November 22, 2004. A review of surveillance tapes by store officials revealed that the missing inventory items were stolen from the store on Sunday, November 21, 2004.
The second larceny occurred at the CVS Store at 34 West State Street, across from the Binghamton Plaza. In this incident, the theft of property was discovered and reported to Binghamton Police on Wednesday, November 24, 2004.
The subsequent investigation by Binghamton Police has led Detectives to believe that the two thefts are related. The theft at the West State Street store appears to have occurred on either Sunday, November 21, 2004, or the next day on Monday, November 22, 2004. In both cases, large amounts of baby formula was stolen. In the first theft, $513.00 worth of Similac, Isomil, Enfamil and Alimentu baby formula was stolen. In the second incident, $296.68 worth of the same varieties of baby formula were stolen.

Burglary, 113 Clinton Street

In late October of 2004, a commercial burglary took place in Binghamton, New York. Sometime between the late hours of Sunday, October 24, 2004 and the morning of Monday, October 25, 2004, someone unlawfully forced entry into The Community Thrift Store, 113 Clinton Street, and stole property. Taken in the burglary were two fully functional computer towers, each containing a hard drive. A hard drive is a device a computer uses to permanently store and retrieve information. It is a sealed box contained inside the tower. One of the stolen towers was the actual computer used by the business. It is a Dell Optiplex, beige in color with the name “Brenda” printed on the top of it in blue marker. It is valued at $200.00.
The other tower was taken from the sales floor, and is a Hewlett-Packard model with a face plate panel which has to be open to turn the computer on and off. This tower is valued at $175.00.

Fugititve, Antoinette Reynolds
For 6 months, from December, 2003 through May, 2004, a woman fraudulently received public benefits from Broome County, New York, Social Services. The woman, identified as Antoinette D. Reynolds, deceived Social Services and reported to them in December 2003 that she was residing in an Endicott, New York apartment building. Additionally, Reynolds reported that she had a child living with her. To support her claims, Reynolds filed a “Landlord Form”, which bore the signature of her landlord and affirmed the residential information. As a result of the information given to Social Services, Reynolds received public benefits for 6 months, until May, 2004.

Ross Park Zoo Criminal Mischief, Binghamton

On Saturday, October 30, 2004, Criminal Mischief occurred at the Ross Park Zoo, 60 Morgan Road, Binghamton, New York. At about 2:00 AM on that date, a Zoo employee noticed two individuals running from the “ Boo at the Zoo” display area. This affair is an annual fundraising event for the zoo, which runs in conjunction with the Halloween season, and is attended by thousands of people. When the employee responded to the display area, he discovered that it had suffered several hundred dollars in Criminal Mischief. Binghamton Police were called and immediately responded to the zoo. A search of the area for the two individuals observed running from the scene was unsuccessful.

Taxicab Armed Robbery, Floral Avenue, Binghamton
In October of 2004, two armed robberies of cab drivers occurred in the City of Binghamton, New York. The first incident took place on October 11, 2004. At about 10:00 PM on that date, a Yellow Cab picked up a fare, a lone male, in Johnson City. The man asked to be taken to an Endicott address, but requested that the cab stop at the Red Apple Store, 23 Floral Avenue, Binghamton, on the way there. After a brief stop at the Red Apple, the man returned to the cab to continue the trip to Endicott. Once inside the cab, the man then advised the driver that he needed to stop at a Carhart Avenue, Binghamton address. When the cab stopped in front of that address, the man exited the cab for a moment, then returned and got back inside.

77 Main St, Binghamton, Manley’s Mighty Mart
On Friday, October 15, 2004, a personal injury hit and run accident occurred on the west side of Binghamton, New York. At about 9:25 PM on that date, a 52 year old west side woman was walking on the south side of Main Street, in the vicinity of Manley’s Mighty Mart, 77 Main Street. When she arrived at the store’s parking lot area, the woman left the sidewalk and walked over to Main Street, with the intent to cross the street. As the woman stepped out into the roadway, she was suddenly struck by a vehicle which was traveling eastbound on Main Street.

Giant Market Quick Change Scam
On October 10, 2004, a “Quick Change Scam” occurred on the East Side of Binghamton, New York. In the early afternoon of that date, a young, female was working her shift at the Giant Market, 160 Robinson Street, as the cashier for the store’s “Express Lane”. At about 12:50 PM, a man and woman came to the cashier with a single item, a frozen pizza. The man handed the cashier a one hundred dollar bill to pay for the pizza. After receiving change, the man then asked if he could pay for the pizza with another denomination bill, and so the scam began.

The Endicott, New York, Police Department is investigating a rape that occurred in August of this year. On Sunday, August 22, 2004, shortly before midnight, a woman was standing in front of her 2 Jefferson Avenue apartment building when she was approached by an unknown man. The man asked the woman if he could borrow a cigarette from her.

In late September of this year, a commercial burglary occurred in downtown Binghamton, New York. In the overnight hours of Tuesday, September 21, 2004 to Wednesday, September 22, 2004, the Cull Martin Associates, a Marketing / Advertising firm located on the fourth floor of 59 Court Street, was broken into.

Broad Avenue Construction Larceny
In early September of 2004, a Grand Larceny occurred on the East Side of Binghamton, New York. The Cardona Construction Company of Schenectady, New York, was hired by the Vacri Construction Company of Binghamton as a sub contractor in the on going Court Street Construction Project. Cardona Construction was to supply and install the various street signs that were required in the job’s specifications.

In early September of 2004, three commercial burglaries occurred in the City of Binghamton, New York. All of the break-ins took place while the businesses were closed and unoccupied. Because of the many similarities in the three burglaries, it is believed that the same person(s) are responsible for them all.

On Tuesday, August 28, 2004, a fire of suspicious origin occurred on the north side of Binghamton, New York. At 4:14 PM, on that date, the Binghamton Fire Department was summoned to the Indian Valley Bag building at 24 - 42 Montgomery Street, Binghamton, on a report of a structure fire.

U-Save Auto Rental, Binghamton, NY
On Thursday, July 22, 2004, the Office Manager of  U-Save Auto Rental, 339 Front Street, Binghamton, New York, was reviewing financial documents, when she came across a cancelled check that appeared to be illegitimate. Upon closer inspection, the Manager discovered that the check was counterfeit, and the signature on it was forged.

Willentina Knapek
On Wednesday, June 23, 2004, a Larceny occurred in the Town of Vestal, New York. At 8:50 PM, on that date, a woman later identified as Wallentina Knapek, entered the Target Store located at 3112 Vestal Parkway East. Using a scam known as, "Till Tap", Wallentina skillfully employed tactics of confusion and distraction to remove and steal over $1,200.00 from an open cash drawer.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 25, 2004, a 31 year old Owego woman was attacked on the west side of Binghamton, New York. At about 4:30 AM, on that date, the female victim was walking on Gerard Avenue in the vicinity of Walnut Street, when she was attacked from behind by an unknown male.

Hess Express, Binghamton, NY
Sometime in late March of 2004, an attempted commercial burglary occurred on the west side of Binghamton, New York. On Thursday, April 1, 2004, the Manager of the Hess Express, 63 Main Street, noticed damage to the ceiling inside the store. The damage was being caused by water leaking through the roof and onto the ceiling tiles, however, the problem area was not visible from within the store.

On Sunday, June 27, 2004, a woman filed a report with the Vestal, New York Police Department regarding stolen credit cards. The woman reported that her cards were stolen at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, and then used illegally at various locations throughout the Town of Vestal.

On Thursday, May 6, 2004, an assault took place on the East Side of Binghamton, New York. At about 4:00 PM on that date, the 37 year old owner of the Angle Market, 210 Court Street, was working alone, waiting on customers at the cash register.

In May of 2004, the Chicago Construction Company of Endicott, New York was engaged in contract work for the City of Binghamton, replacing catch basins on State Street. On May 28, 2004, the contractor parked the company equipment in the parking lot of the Binghamton Plaza, 33 West State Street, near the job site, for the extended holiday weekend.

Fairview Cleaners, Binghamton, NY
On the morning of Saturday, March 13, 2004, a commercial burglary occurred on the east side of Binghamton. At about 2:00 AM, a member of the family which owns the Fairview Cleaners at 467 Court Street, was awakened by noises coming from inside the business, which had been closed for several hours. The family resides in an apartment on the second floor of the building, over the business.

In March of 2004, an investigation by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office / Binghamton Police Department Joint Special Investigations Unit Task Force culminated with a raid on a west side Binghamton, New York apartment. On the morning of March 25, 2004, members of the Task Force executed a Search Warrant at a Walnut Street apartment.

Sometime between the hours of noon on February 14, 2004, and 10:00 AM on February 16, 2004, a burglary took place at a home on the west side of Binghamton, New York. The home, located in the Park Street, Grand Boulevard area was being renovated by a Brackney , Pennsylvania contractor, and was unoccupied during the previously mentioned time frame.

Route 17, Johnson City, NY
On Saturday, January 10, 2004, a suspicious incident occurred on Route 17 in Johnson City, New York. At about 9:00 AM, on that date, a young woman was traveling eastbound on Route 17 when she developed tire trouble with her vehicle. The woman pulled to the side of the road, between Exit 70 and Exit 71, and contacted a friend to come to her assistance.

Quickway, Binghamton, NY
On Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, a larceny occurred at the Quickway Store located at 306 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton, New York. During that evening a lone female clerk was working and had put together a cash drop deposit envelope. A customer walked over to the register and asked the clerk for cigarettes and a bag. The clerk had to turn her back to the man in order to get the cigarettes he asked for. A later review of the store’s security surveillance tape revealed the man leaned over the counter and grabbed the envelope when the clerk was distracted.

In late December of 2003 and early January of 2004, a series of criminal mischief and larcenies occurred to vehicles on the west side of Binghamton, New York. During that time span a total of 23 vehicles were damaged and 3 had property stolen from them. The damage to the vehicles totals several thousand dollars.

On Tues., February 10, 2004, a burglary occurred at the House of Reardon, 25 Grant Street, Binghamton, New York. At 3:52 AM, Binghamton Police responded to an alarm activation at that location. Upon arrival, the business had already closed for the evening, Officers found the front door unlocked. A search of the premises resulted in no one being found in or around the building. Additionally, there was no obvious sign of forced entry to the business.

Sometime overnight, from Sat., Jan. 24, 2004 to Sun., Jan. 25, 2004, a commercial burglary occurred in Endicott, New York The break-in at the Interlieds Hardware Store, 4 Washington Avenue, Endicott, was discovered on Sun. Jan. 25 by a store employee. Entry to the store appears to have been gained by removing a rear window and then climbing through to the interior of the building.

Alaska Market Attempted Robbery

On Mon., Nov. 15, 2003, an attempted armed robbery occurred at the Alaska Market, 254 Chenango Street, Binghamton, New York. At about 9:45 PM a female employee was working at a cash register inside the store when a man walked up to the female employee at the cash register. The man placed a carton of milk on the counter and produced a large knife ordering the employee to give him all the money in the cash drawer.

Binghamton Arson, 206 Main Street

In the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, 2003, a house fire occurred on the west side of Binghamton, New York . At 5:38 AM, the Binghamton Fire Department responded to 206 Main Street and found two fires in the structure. One of the fires was located on the northeast side of the building, on a porch walkway that overhangs the first floor of the building. The other fire was located on the northwest side of the dwelling, directly under the window of an occupied apartment.

HSBC Bank Night Deposit Robbery

On Thurs., Nov. 11, 2003, a robbery occurred at the HSBC Bank, Binghamton Plaza, 33 West State Street, Binghamton, New York. At about 11:10 PM, on that date, a male employee of Kentucky Fried Chicken drove up to the bank to deposit the day’s proceeds. A man wearing a ski mask and holding his hand in his pocket, approached the employee. Fearing that the man was holding a gun in his pocket, the employee gave the deposit to the man.

NYPD Wanted Fugitive, Raymond Yu
On  Sunday, November 9, 2003, an attempted homicide occurred in the Club Yello, 32 Mulberry Street, New York City, New York. Investigation by the NYPD revealed that the shooter in this incident is a man named Raymond Yu. Yu has ties to the Binghamton area, including SUNY Binghamton. It is believed he may currently be is in this area.

Sometime between Tuesday, December 23, 2003 and the morning of Monday, December 29, 2003, a commercial burglary occurred at the Union Auto Repair Garage in Endicott, NY. It appears entry into the building was gained by breaking out a 12"by18" window on the southwest side of the building.

Church Forgery/Larceny, Binghamton, NY
On Monday, July 7, 2003 a legitimate business check was written on the account of a downtown Binghamton, NY church. The check was subsequently stolen and cashed on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the drive-up of Horizon’s Credit Union, 120 Main Street, Binghamton. The drive up’s video surveillance tapes shows a woman in a car submitting the check at the time it was cashed.
