Friend's Grocery Burglaries

| In the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 30, 2002, a Binghamton Police Officer, while on routine patrol, discovered that the glass in the front door of Friend’s Grocery, 46 Court Street, Binghamton, New York, had been smashed out. Further investigation revealed that the store had just been burglarized, and that the perpetrator(s) had already left the scene. Taken in the burglary were 382 packages of cigarettes valued at $2,500.00, 30 Bic lighters valued at $46.00 and $125.00 in cash. The cigarettes were primarily Newport, Camel and Marlboro, but included Bali Hai and Black Diarum. | On Thursday, September 19, 2002, in the early morning hours, the Friends Grocery was again burglarized. Like the first break-in, entry was gained by smashing out the glass of the front door. Taken in this burglary were 40 packages of Newport cigarettes valued at over $200.00. Two males were seen in the area of the store just prior to the second burglary, and may be suspects. They are described as white, the first about 5’ 10" tall, beard and wearing glasses. The second was described only as white and shorter than the other male. The owner of the store has installed security measures to prevent further burglaries. Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. |
