Super X Laundry Larceny

On Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at about 1:05 PM, the owner of the Super X Laundry, 300 Main Street, Binghamton, New York, discovered that a larceny had occurred at that place of business. Sometime between 4:00 PM on Tuesday, December 3, 2002, and the early afternoon of the following day, the change machine in the laundromat had $1,138.00 stolen from it.

The subsequent investigation by the Binghamton Police Department revealed that the machine had not been forcibly entered or damaged. Money was stolen from the machine by means of a procedure frequently used in thefts from change machines, that includes the use of a string. It appears that the theft initiated at about 10:49 PM on that Tuesday evening, and would have required, at the very minimum, fifteen minutes to remove the money from the machine. The stolen money consisted of 4,552 quarters, which, if massed together, would weigh just under 57 pounds. Because of the weight and volume of the quarters, a container or bag was probably used to transport the coins.

Two suspects have been developed in this case.

Suspect One is described as a white male, aged 25 to 35 years of age, 5’8" tall, 160 pounds, light brown hair.

Suspect two is described as a white male, 15 to 20 years of age, 5’6" tall, 150 pounds with black hair.

Pictures of the suspects were obtained from a surveillance camera.

The Super X Laundry has taken steps to prevent further thefts of this nature.

Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes.
