In the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 9, 2003, an Attempted Arson occurred at the Military Recruitment Office located in the Vestal Park Plaza, 4700 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal, New York. On that day, an unknown person or persons, smashed out the front window of the recruiting office and threw in a Molotov cocktail. The Molotov cocktail did not detonate. A Molotov cocktail is a crude bomb, also known as an incendiary device. It is a breakable container designed to explode or produce uncontained combustion upon impact, containing flammable liquid and having a wick or a similar device capable of being ignited. The most frequently used Molotov Cocktail is a glass jar filled with gasoline and equipped with a fuse. Because the Molotov cocktail did not detonate, damage to the building was limited to the broken out window. No one was in the office at the time of the incident and no one was injured. The Vestal Police Department is investigating this Attempted Arson. Along with any specific suspect information, they are also seeking information as to the identity of an individual who was seen in the immediate area of the crime, to speak to him as a potential witness. Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. |
