Binghamton Criminal Mischief

On June 29, 2001, Binghamton City Councilwoman Theresa K. Palleschi was out of town, vacationing with her husband and family. While the family was away, their south side Binghamton, New York home was extensively damaged by vandals. The damage was discovered by an alert neighbor who notified both the Palleschi's and the Binghamton Police.

The worst of the damage occurred when the vandal(s) forced open a dining room window and inserted a nearby garden hose through the window and into the house. The vandal(s) then turned on the water to the hose and left it running, directly into the home. The water ran continuously, for many hours before it was discovered and turned off. By that time the water had already devastated a good portion of the home interior.

In the dining room, the floor, wall and much of the furniture were damaged. The water eventually worked it's way through the dining room floor and into the basement. An office in the basement and all it's equipment and furniture, including a computer, were destroyed when the ceiling collapsed. Water in the basement rose to a depth of almost two feet after an automatic sump pump burnt up from overuse, destroying the furnace and essentially everything else down there. The cellar wall was also extensively damaged when water penetrated it and eventually weakened it.

The vandal(s) also broke out several spindles in the railing of the rear deck; smashed out two glass windows in the rear of the house; pulled out wires to the central air conditioning unit and severely damaged it by beating on it, possibly with a baseball bat and also threw several potted plants from the rear deck onto the roof of the garage. Entry into the house was never gained.

Damage to the home totaled several thousand dollars.

Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes.
