Gaines Street Arson
Shortly after 10:00 PM on Sunday, April 27, 2003, the Binghamton Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 11 Gaines Street, Binghamton, New York. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found the house fully engulfed in flames. Consequently, a third alarm was called in by the Fire Supervisor on the scene to summon additional resources to help battle the blaze. The fire was soon extinguished as result of the firefighters concerted effort. The house was vacant and boarded up at the time of the fire. While there were no civilians injured, one Fire Department Supervisor was slightly injured battling the blaze. The house was extensively damaged. An investigation into the cause of the fire by BFD Fire Investigators revealed that the blaze was intentionally set. Investigators further determined that an accelerant, possibly gasoline, was used to start the fire. Along with specific suspect information as to who is responsible for this arson, investigators are also seeking information from anyone in the area who may remember selling a small amount of gasoline to someone just prior to this incident. Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. |
