Later in that same day, the purse was recovered, however $140.00 in cash and her HSBC Bank Debit Card had been taken. When the woman contacted the bank to report that her Debit Card had been stolen, she learned that $1,000.00 had been illegally withdrawn from her account. The theft had occurred at the HSBC Bank at 156 Main Street. The subsequent investigation by the Binghamton Police Department revealed that the person responsible for both the theft of the cash from the purse and the illegal use of the Debit Card was a local man named Joseph R. A Bench Warrant for Markle had previously been issued on March 18, 2003, by Binghamton City Court, when he failed to keep a court appointed date.
