Carousel Inn Robbery, Binghamton NY

On Sunday, February 1, 2004, a robbery occurred at the Carousel Inn, 65 Front Street, Binghamton, New York. At about 5:50 AM on that date, a 58 year old male hotel employee was on duty at the reception desk in the front lobby when he was approached by a man carrying a dumbbell. The man demanded that the employee give him money from the cash drawer, or he would hit him with the dumbbell. After telling the man that he did not have keys to open the drawer, the employee attempted to get away from him by running out of the lobby and into an adjoining kitchen. Giving chase, the man caught up to the employee in the kitchen and struck him in the chest and head with the dumbbell. The man then returned to the reception desk, jumped over the counter and forced open the cash drawer. While the man was removing money from the drawer, the employee returned and confronted him. The man then vaulted back over the counter and ran from the lobby, westbound down a corridor that gave access to the entire hotel and all other exits.

Police responded to the scene but were unable to locate the man either in or around the hotel.

The employee was not seriously injured, suffering a black eye and bruising.

An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen in the robbery.

The suspect is described as Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years of age, light complexion, black wavy hair, about 5’7" tall, medium build, wearing a black jersey with the number 8 on the front and an unknown name in white on the back, long sleeve shirt under the jersey, blue and white baseball cap, baggy blue jeans, black sneakers and black gloves.

Pictures of the suspect were obtained from a video surveillance camera that recorded the entire incident.

Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes.
