Vandalism damage
Binghamton Downtown Graffiti

Recently, several incidents of graffiti have occurred in the City of Binghamton, New York. In the overnight hours of Thursday, March 18, 2004 into Friday, March 19, 2004, a number of locations in the downtown area were damaged by graffiti. In these incidents, the vandal(s) followed along the Chenango River, starting with the Statue at Memorial Circle, then to the AAA Building at 21 Washington Street. Next, a Wal-Mart trailer parked on Stuart Street was painted. Continuing on to the north side of Court Street, buildings at 1 Wall Street and 30 Wall Street were vandalized  with paint. At all of these locations, both red and green spray paints were used to spell out obscenities, anti- government and racial messages. Additionally, a symbol representing the word "anarchy" was painted on one of the businesses.

In other incidents, a vandal(s) has spray painted just one word on the property being damaged. This word is probably the signature of the vandal.

On both March 5, 2004 and March 11, 2004, what appears to be the letters "O-N-E-R" were spray painted on the doors of the Binghamton Fluorescent Company at 235 Main Street. The paint is a greenish blue.

Also this month, what appears to be the letters "C-O-N-D" were spray painted in black at a number of locations. Some of those locations were Sall Stearns, 52 Court Street; Chris’ Restaurant, 192 State Street; a building on Water Street and the side of a house on Pine Street at Chapman Street.

Additionally, in yet another incident this month, properties were damaged when they were spray painted in black with what appears to be the letters "S-E-E-K". That damage started with a building on the corner of Court Street and Carroll Street and extended east to the Salvation Army building at the corner of Court Street and Griswold Street. In between, four buildings on Court Street and 2 fences on Pine Street were painted in the same manner.

Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes.
