On Saturday, January 10, 2004, a suspicious incident occurred on Route 17 in Johnson City, New York. At about 9:00 AM, on that date, a young woman was traveling eastbound on Route 17 when she developed tire trouble with her vehicle. The woman pulled to the side of the road, between Exit 70 and Exit 71, and contacted a friend to come to her assistance. While the woman was waiting for her friend to arrive, a man driving a pickup truck pulled in behind her. The woman remained in her vehicle as the man parked the truck and walked up to her. Offering his assistance, the man said he had a tire in his truck that could be used for repair on the womans vehicle. He said that he would, however, need to use her car jack to change the tire. At this point the woman got out of her vehicle so that she could get her car jack for the man. While walking to the trunk of her vehicle, the woman noticed that there were no tires in the back of the pickup truck. When she reached the trunk of the vehicle, the man suddenly grabbed hold of her arm and told her to get into his truck. The woman was able to pull away from the man and get back inside her vehicle, locking the doors. The man then returned to his truck and drove away. Johnson City Police were notified and initiated an investigation of the incident. The suspect is described as a white male, age late 30s to early 40s, 61", thin build, wearing a baseball cap. He had brown hair which was sticking out of the back of the cap. The suspects vehicle is described as a late 1980s Chevrolet pickup truck, color light blue. It is described as being "beat up". A composite drawing of the suspect was obtained from the victim. Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. |
