On Tuesday, April 6, 2004, a hit and run accident occurred in the First Ward of Binghamton, New York. At about 4:30 PM on that date, a 34 year old Binghamton man was riding his bicycle eastbound on Clinton Street, between Grace Street and Jarvis Street. As the bicyclist reached the entrance to the parking lot of Manleys Mighty Mart, 215 Clinton Street, a vehicle that was also traveling eastbound on Clinton Street suddenly swerved right ( south) and drove into the entranceway. In doing so, the vehicle struck the bicyclist, who was also in the entranceway. The bicyclist was knocked to the ground by the impact, and lay in the entranceway injured. The vehicle, without stopping or slowing down, continued on through the parking lot to Jarvis Street. It was last seen fleeing the area, southbound on Jarvis Street. Binghamton Fire Department Ambulance and Medics responded to the scene to render emergency care to the victim. He was transported by ambulance to Wilson Hospital Emergency Room for treatment. The victim suffered head and facial injuries, including a concussion, as well as a left knee injury. Video surveillance cameras located at Manleys were able to capture some of the incident. A picture of the vehicle leaving the scene was developed from the film. The vehicle appears to be a small four door sedan, color brown. It appears that it may possibly be a 1995 Honda Civic. Damage from the incident may appear on the right (passenger) side of the vehicle. Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. |
