On Sunday, April 18, 2004, a Grand Larceny occurred on the west side of Binghamton, New York. On that day, an Endicott, New York resident was visiting at a Binghamton First Ward residence. At about 2:00 PM, another man, later identified as James J. DeMarco, arrived at the residence, also for a visit. DeMarco and the Endicott man were acquaintances, and the two engaged in a friendly conversation in the living room of the house. After a while, the Endicott man momentarily left the room to use the bathroom. When he returned to the living room, he discovered that DeMarco had left. Later that afternoon, the Endicott man discovered that his Visa Card, Drivers License and $180.00 in cash were missing. He had earlier left them on an end table in the living room when he went to the bathroom, and then forgot about them. Realizing that they had been stolen, the man notified the Binghamton Police Department. The subsequent investigation revealed that James J. DeMarco had, indeed, stolen the cash and items. After leaving the home, DeMarco spent some of the stolen money on beer. He buried the Visa Card and Drivers License in his back yard, where they were later recovered by Investigators. On April 19, 2004, James J. DeMarco was arrested by Binghamton Police Detectives for this theft and was charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a Felony. He was issued an Appearance Ticket to return at a later date for Arraignment in City Court. DeMarco never made that Court date. On April 21, 2004, Binghamton City Court Judge John T. Hillis issued an Arrest Warrant for DeMarco, based on the failure to appear for the Arraignment. DeMarco has never been arrested on that Warrant, and remains at large at this time. James J. DeMarco is described as a white male, 34 years of age, born February 25, 1960. He is 59" tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has dark hair and blue eyes. His last known address was 14 Phelps Street, Binghamton. Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. |
