In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 30, 2004, a 26 year old Binghamton, New York, woman arrived at her west side apartment and found an unwelcome man waiting inside it for her. The man, an ex-boyfriend named Willie L. Coaxum, had let himself into the apartment knowing that he was not allowed to do so. An Order of Protection issued by Broome County Family Court on November 17, 2003, by Judge Rita Connerton expressly ordered that Coaxum was to have no contact with the woman whatsoever, and was to stay away from her home and place of employment. Ignoring the Order, Coaxum went to the womans home, and upon finding her not there, entered the residence, apparently to wait for her return. As soon as the woman entered her apartment, Coaxum was upon her. He first grabbed hold of her, then began to strike her in the face and head with his fists. Coaxum continued to pummel the woman with his fists, striking her numerous times before he stopped. The woman suffered 2 black eyes, as well as contusions and swelling about her face from the beating. The woman called the Binghamton police, who responded to her apartment. Coaxum had fled prior to their arrival, and efforts to locate him were unsuccessful. As a result, on June 1, 2004, Binghamton City Court Judge John T. Hillis issued an Arrest Warrant for Coaxum, charging him with Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, a Felony, for his violating the Order of Protection and injuring the woman in the process. The Warrant also charges him with Assault in the Third Degree for the beating of the woman. Coaxum has never been arrested on that Warrant, and remains at large at this time. Previous to this incident, on April 30, 2004, Broome County Family Court had issued a Warrant of Arrest for Coaxum, charging him with a family offense. He has never been arrested on that Warrant as well. Willie L. Coaxum is described as a black male, 30 years old, date of birth is June 14, 1973, 60", 270 pounds, black hair and brown eyes. His last known address was 5 Edwards Street and 93 Walnut Street, Binghamton. Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. |
