CVS/X-tra Mart Larceny

On Wednesday, August 18, 2004, a Grand Larceny occurred in the City of Binghamton, New York. At about 5:30 PM on that date, a 43 year old East Side man was shopping at the Giant Market at 160 Robinson Street. The man purchased a few items and then left the store. At about 6:30 PM, the man discovered that he did not have his wallet, that he had either left it at the cash register in the Giant when he made the purchase, or lost it when exiting the store. The man returned to the Giant, but was advised that the clerk who handled his transaction had left for the evening, and had not turned in his wallet. He also checked the area where he had earlier parked his car but the wallet was nowhere to be found.

One of the items in the man’s wallet was a Bank of America credit card. The man immediately called the company to report the card as lost or stolen, and was advised that the card had already been used twice since 6:00 PM. It was used first, at 6:02 PM, to purchase gasoline from the J & R Stop and Shop, 198 Robinson Street, Binghamton. The card was used outside, directly at the gasoline pump, to complete the transaction. Next, at 6:12 PM, the card was used to make a purchase inside the X-tra Mart at 227 Court Street, Binghamton.

Additionally, unsuccessful attempts to use the card occurred that same evening at the CVS at 249 Main Street, Binghamton, and a local Hess Express.

The man contacted the Binghamton Police and reported the theft and illegal use of his credit card. The subsequent investigation revealed that a subject involved with the attempted use of the card at CVS was caught on video surveillance tape. Pictures of the individual have been developed from that footage, and is being presented as part of this case.

The wallet is described as a men’s black leather with money and card holder, containing other bank cards, personal items and keys.

From the video, the subject appears to be a white male, age late 20’s to early 30’s, slender to medium build, 5’8" to 5’10" tall, glasses, mustache, dark curly hair, wearing a white baseball uniform type shirt with low neckline, darker stripes around the neck and down the front, with what appears to be the letters N - I - K - E printed across the front, jeans and white athletic type shoes.

Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes.
