Binghamton, NY
In early September of 2004, three commercial burglaries occurred in the City of Binghamton, New York. All of the break-ins took place while the businesses were closed and unoccupied. The first break-in took place on Sunday, September 5, 2004 at the Yellow Store, 121 Susquehanna Street, Binghamton. Discovered at about 9:10 PM, entry to the store was gained by throwing a cinder block through a window on the west side of the building. With this window smashed out, the burglar(s) was able to climb in through the opening and have access to the interior. During this entry process, a sink located directly under the smashed out window was broken, and water was spewing from it onto the floor of the store. The burglar(s) removed the cash register from the store, which was later recovered in the pool area of Columbus Park. It had been broken into several pieces. On Friday, September 10, 2004, at approximately 12:30 AM, the second break-in occurred at NYSEG Stadium, located at the intersection of Fayette Street with Henry Street. The subsequent investigation by Binghamton Police reveals that it appears at least two individuals entered the Stadium by scaling the fence located on the west side of the facility along Lewis Street. Once inside, the burglars proceeded to the Stadium Store where they forced entry by smashing out the glass door with a brick. The burglars then removed the cash registers from the store and carried them to the area of the Bullpen. Here the registers were opened and cash drawers removed. The burglars left the Stadium with an undisclosed amount of cash. On Saturday, September 11, 2004, at approximately 1:00 AM, the third burglary occurred at the Dollar Bazaar Store, located in the Binghamton Plaza, 33 West State Street, Binghamton. In this incident, entry to the building was gained by using a cinder block to smash out the glass in the front door of the store. Once inside, the burglar(s) proceeded to the store’s cash registers. These registers were then carried outside the store. They were discovered later by Police, just a short distance from the store. Because of the many similarities in the three burglaries, it is believed that the same person(s) are responsible for them all. Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. |
