Ross Park Zoo Criminal Mischief
On Saturday, October 30, 2004, Criminal Mischief occurred at the Ross Park Zoo, 60 Morgan Road, Binghamton, New York. At about 2:00 AM on that date, a Zoo employee noticed two individuals running from the “ Boo at the Zoo” display area. This affair is an annual fundraising event for the zoo, which runs in conjunction with the Halloween season, and is attended by thousands of people. When the employee responded to the display area, he discovered that it had suffered several hundred dollars in Criminal Mischief.
Binghamton Police were called and immediately responded to the zoo. A search of the area for the two individuals observed running from the scene was unsuccessful.
The subsequent investigation revealed that several items in the display had been vandalized. Some of the damage occurred to tables and torches that were knocked down by the vandals, as well as various items in the display which were destroyed. 30 pumpkins which were used to light paths in the zoo were also destroyed.
The two individuals seen running from the area were described as white males, age in their teens. They were last seen running south from the display area and into the woods.
Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes.
