BPD Christmas Eve Robbery

On Christmas Eve, 2004, a strong arm robbery occurred on the west side of Binghamton, New York. At about 7:08 AM, on that Friday morning, a 71 year old Binghamton woman arrived in her car at the parking lot of the Price Chopper Grocery, Foundry Plaza, 10 Glenwood Avenue. The woman parked the vehicle, exited it and began to walk across the lot towards the store. She was carrying her shoulder purse as she went. Within moments of exiting the car, the woman was approached by a man who suddenly grabbed hold of her purse in an effort to steal it. The woman resisted the man’s attack and was knocked to the ground in the struggle. She continued to hold on to the purse, even as the man dragged her across the pavement. Finally, the woman could hold on no longer and the man was able to wrest the purse from her. He then fled the scene on foot, carrying the purse, last seen running west across the lot.
The woman sustained injuries to her head and face in the struggle. Binghamton Police were notified and immediately responded to the scene. A search for the suspect was unsuccessful.
The woman was transported by Binghamton Fire Department Ambulance to Lourdes Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Along with the woman’s purse, the man got away with it’s contents, which included an undisclosed amount of cash and various other items.
The suspect is described as a white male, age mid to late 20’s, 6’0” to 6’2”, medium build, dark short hair, appeared clean shaven, wearing a below the waist length tan hooded parka possibly with a fur trimmed hood, dark shirt, tan baggy cargo pants with side cargo pockets and very clean white sneakers. The suspect was observed smoking.
The suspect may have fled the scene in a white car with red roof, described as a square or box style sedan with paint in very poor condition.
The suspect was recorded on a Price Chopper surveillance video.
Along with specific suspect information, Detectives would be interested in information from people who were in the area at the time of the robbery and may have noticed the suspect or something suspicious.

Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes.
