BPD Chapin Street Residential Burglary

On Monday, February 21, 2005, a residential burglary took place on the west side of Binghamton, New York. Sometime between 6:40 AM and 4:00 PM, on that date, a second floor apartment of a Chapin Street multi-family dwelling was forcibly entered and property stolen, while the tenants were out.
Entry to the apartment building was gained by simply walking through the unlocked front door which leads into a hallway and a staircase. Once inside, the burglar(s) walked up a flight of stairs and arrived at the locked apartment door. A wooden panel in the door was forcibly knocked out and the burglar(s) then reached in through the opening and unlocked the door from the inside. Once inside, the burglar(s) had access to the entire apartment.
Each room in the apartment was entered, with the perpetrator(s) rummaging and ransacking as he or she went. Exit from the apartment was apparently back out the door that was forced open.
Taken in the burglary was an undisclosed amount of cash, removed from various locations throughout the apartment.
A pet dog was present in the apartment at the time of the break-in. While there were no apparent injuries to the dog, the owner felt that it may have been beaten by the burglar(s).
Along with specific suspect information, Investigators would also be interested in any suspicious individuals, vehicles or activities that may have been observed at the time of the burglary, in the immediate vicinity.

Binghamton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes.
