BPD Jackson Street Compressor Larceny
On Friday, November 19, 2004, a larceny occurred on the south side of Binghamton, New York. A local contractor had been hired to do renovations to a vacant house on Jackson Street, including the installation of a new roof as well as work on the building’s interior. The builder hired a sub-contractor to handle the roofing portion of the job.
On the date previously mentioned, the sub-contractor and other workers were at the job site putting in a day’s work. At 12:30 PM, the workers left the job site and went out for lunch. When they returned at 1:45 PM, they discovered that a piece of equipment was missing, apparently stolen.
Stolen was an air compressor that the sub-contractor was using to power air nailers, which were being utilized in the work on the roof. The air compressor had been set up inside the house, plugged into the building’s electrical supply. Hoses which were connected to the compressor led from inside the house, out a door and up to the nailers on the roof. The nailers are unable to function without the compressor and hose hookup.
Entry to the house was gained through an unlocked basement door. Once inside, the suspect(s) removed the hoses from the compressor and disconnected it from the electrical supply. At this point, the compressor was carried out the basement door.
Nothing else appears to have been stolen, nor property damaged in this incident.
The stolen air compressor is described as a “Ridgid” brand, Model Number 0545150A, Color is bright orange, 4 ½ gallon double tank, 3 ¼ horsepower. The letters “J” and “R” have been engraved into the metal plate on the front of the machine near where all the gauges and hookups are. The compressor is valued at $369.00
The compressor weighs in excess of 60 pounds.
Along with specific suspect information, Detectives would be interested in any information on the location of the stolen property, or information on any suspicious person(s) or activity observed in the area on the day of the crime.
BINGHAMTON CRIME STOPPERS IS OFFERING A REWARD OF UP TO $1,000.00 FOR INFORMATION WHICH LEADS TO THE ARREST AND INDICTMENT OF THE SUSPECT IN THIS CASE.
