BPD Tracy Street Residential Burglary

On a weekend in late May of this year, a residential burglary occurred in the First Ward of Binghamton, New York. Sometime in the overnight hours of Friday, May 20, 2005 to Saturday, May 21, 2005, an apartment on Tracy Street was forcibly entered and property stolen. At about 11:00 PM, on the Friday night mentioned, a male resident of the apartment left for the evening, leaving the residence unoccupied. The tenant locked the doors of the apartment as he departed. Returning at about 7:00 AM, the tenant entered his residence and nothing seemed amiss at that time. Around 2:30 PM, that afternoon, the tenant discovered that money was missing from his apartment. He telephoned Binghamton Police, who immediately responded to the residence.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the apartment had been forcibly entered while the tenant was out. Entry was made through the front door of the second floor apartment. Slight pry marks in the vicinity of the door’s locking mechanism indicated that the burglar(s) had slipped an object through to the latch bolt and forced it open. Once inside, the burglar(s) had full access to the interior of the apartment.
Exit from the apartment was made through the same door. The lock can be set so that it will engage when the door shuts. Apparently, this is what occurred when the burglar(s) left the scene. This is also why the tenant was unsuspecting of any problem when he returned, as the door appeared normal and the lock functioned properly.
Taken in the burglary was an undisclosed amount of cash, removed from various locations in the apartment. Some of that loot consisted of coins that the tenant had been saving.
Along with specific suspect information, Investigators would be interested in any observations of suspicious individuals, vehicles or activities that may have been made in the vicinity and time of the burglary. Additionally, information on any suspicious individual(s) cashing in coins around the time of the break-in could be helpful.

BINGHAMTON CRIME STOPPERS IS OFFERING A REWARD OF UP TO $1,000.00 FOR INFORMATION WHICH LEADS TO THE ARREST AND INDICTMENT OF THE SUSPECT IN THIS CASE.
