BPD Fugitive Shamel T. Young

In the evening of Monday, July 18, 2005, an Attempted Murder occurred in the west side of Binghamton, New York. At about 9:45 PM, on that date, two men were traveling in a vehicle northbound on Edwards Street. As the vehicle slowed down to stop at a house near Thorpe Street, a male standing at the rear of a stopped car, brandishing a firearm, took a shot at the men. The men drove off in their vehicle as more shots were fired.
Residents of the area called Binghamton Police to report the shots being fired. Uniformed Officers responded immediately to the area, however, no suspects or victims were initially located.
The subsequent investigation resulted in the two victims being located a short while later. Both men had received minor gunshot wounds, with one being struck once in the head and the other struck once in the back. The vehicle they had been driving at the time of the incident had 3 bullet holes in it. Neither of the victims were seriously injured.
Investigators have determined that the male responsible for the shooting is Shamel T. Young. The incident was not a random shooting, as both victims are familiar with Young.
All efforts to locate Young have been unsuccessful, and so on July 27, 2005, a Warrant of Arrest for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree was issued for Young by City of Binghamton Court Judge William Pelella. Young has never been arrested on that Warrant and remains at large at this time.
Shamel L. Young is described as a black male, 28 years of age, born November 21, 1976, 5’07”, 170 pounds. He is missing a front tooth. Young uses the aliases of “Sha” and “Kareem Young.”

BINGHAMTON CRIME STOPPERS IS OFFERING A REWARD OF UP TO $1,000.00 FOR INFORMATION WHICH LEADS TO THE ARREST AND INDICTMENT OF THE SUSPECT IN THIS CASE.
