BPD Water Street Attempted Rape

In the late evening hours of Sunday, June 19, 2005, an attempted rape occurred in the downtown area of Binghamton , New York. After attending a music show on Main Street, a 17 year old Binghamton girl began walking to her residence on the south side. After crossing the Court Street Bridge, the young lady turned right and started south along the river walk, which runs parallel to Chenango River, behind the Holiday Inn Arena. A short while later, at about 11:30 PM, she emerged on Water Street in the area of the intersection with Susquehanna Street. As she continued walking south, towards the South Washington Street Bridge, she was suddenly attacked from behind by a male. The male tackled the girl, knocking her to the ground. He then forced his way on top of her as she lay on the ground. After telling the girl that he had a gun, the male began groping her with his hands. The girl fought back against her attacker, kicking and struggling while screaming at the same time. Eventually, the man got off of the woman and she was able to get up and run away. He, apparently, did not pursue her. The woman ran to her south side home where she told a family member about the incident. Because she was injured in the incident, the family member took the woman to Lourdes Hospital for emergency treatment.
While the victim was at the Hospital, Binghamton Police were notified of the incident. Officers responded to both the Hospital and the area of the crime scene. A search for the suspect in the area where the incident occurred was unsuccessful.
The victim suffered a large bump on the top of her head, as well as abrasions in her left eye region. She also complained of severe pain in her head.
The suspect is described as a white male, pale skinned, age in late 20’s or 30’s, average height, overweight. The suspect had a bare chest, with a dark colored shirt draped over his head.
The suspect was last seen walking towards the Holiday Inn Arena.

BINGHAMTON CRIME STOPPERS IS OFFERING A REWARD OF UP TO $1,000.00 FOR INFORMATION WHICH LEADS TO THE ARREST AND INDICTMENT OF THE SUSPECT IN THIS CASE.
